Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway construction to begin in Sept.: deputy PM

VLADIVOSTOK, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — Construction of a high-speed railway linking the Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg is set to begin in September, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev said at the 9th Eastern Economic Forum on Wednesday.
“We have a comprehensive roadmap and an established project office. Our main objective now is to commence construction, and as promised, we will do so in September,” Savelyev said.
“Our first goal is to build the initial section between Moscow and Tver, which spans 100 km,” he said, adding that this section will be used for testing high-speed trains.
The entire project is expected to be completed by 2028, reducing travel time between the two cities to 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The Eastern Economic Forum is taking place from Sept. 3 to 6 at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok. ■
